"The above was a headline from a Washington Post article published 6/28/2019. It went on to cite how Google's "Chrome browser looks a lot like surveillance software... It turns out, having the world’s biggest advertising company make the most popular Web browser was about as smart as letting kids run a candy shop."
The author's finding's were so alarming that it made him "decide to ditch Chrome for a new version of nonprofit Mozilla’s Firefox, which has default privacy protections. Switching involved less inconvenience than you might imagine." He went on to say: "My tests of Chrome vs. Firefox unearthed a personal data caper of absurd proportions. In a week of Web surfing on my desktop, I discovered 11,189 requests for tracker “cookies” that Chrome would have ushered right onto my computer but were automatically blocked by Firefox. These little files are the hooks that data firms, including Google itself, use to follow what websites you visit so they can build profiles of your interests, income and personality." This is not news to us, as we have used Firefox as our primary browser for the past several years and are a financial supporter of the Mozilla Foundation. While web browsers are not something that we typically discuss in a business setting, given the increasing focus on online privacy (or, more appropriately, the lack thereof), it seemed to be a good time to let you know what you're facing every time you open Chrome and at least get you to consider an alternative. UPDATE: It appears that the issues with Mojave and FileMaker 17 have been resolved with the release of FileMaker Pro Advanced 17.0.4 and FileMaker Server 17.0.3. These included multiple performance issues with both FileMaker Server and FileMaker WebDirect.
Original Post We are strongly recommending that any FileMaker user running macOS not install version 10.14 Mojave due to compatibility issues. This recommendation will remain in place until further notice. Background: Several of our clients jumped the gun and installed macOS 10.14 Mojave the day it came out. Unfortunately, they were among the first to discover that FileMaker does not work well with Mojave, as they were unable to connect to their remotely-hosted databases and experienced crashes. Following up on these reports, we installed Mojave on one of our MacBooks and confirmed this behavior for FileMaker 17, 16 and 14. (N.B.: FileMaker 17 and 16 are supposed to be able to work on Mojave, while earlier versions of FileMaker are not supported.) FileMaker's Comments: According to FileMaker, FileMaker 17 and 16 are compatible with Mojave, but with known issues. An update to make them fully compatible has been targeted for no later than December of this year. Regarding FileMaker Server 17 and 16, FileMaker has acknowledged serious compatibility issues between those two programs and Mojave. As a result, FileMaker recommends against installing Mojave until updates for FileMaker Server are released. The updates are expected by the end of November 2018.
